Is there conflict or tension in your family business?
Do you have a succession plan but not sure that the next generation is ready?
Worried about the future leadership skills in your business?
As a proud family business of 38 years we understand the many personal rewards that running and growing a successful family business can bring. Through our own experience, and having worked with many family businesses over the years, we also understand the frequent challenges involved in running a successful family business, such as relationship conflict, organisational and strategic change, effective succession planning, issues around leadership readiness, effectively integrating non-family members into the business, and being able to embrace and generate a sufficiently entrepreneurial culture.
These common challenges are affirmed by the recent KPMG/Family Business Association Family Business Survey 2015 results. Some particular survey results of interest include:
- 80% of family businesses reported having experienced conflict/tension between family members over the past year
- 63% of those intending to pass on the CEO role in the next 4-5 years believed that the likely successor was not ready
- 72% of family businesses expected to have some transfer of ownership in the next 5 years
